Hints for Renovating a Handyman Special Property
Ok, here is the situation…you have just bought a property that is rundown and needs to be fixed up or completely renovated before you can move in or resell it; where do you start? This can be a daunting task depending upon how much needs to be repaired. If you need to gut the entire inside and start over again, then you are looking at quite a bit of time, money and work. Developers and large construction companies are the most likely ones to buy properties that need that much renovation. They have the financial and material resources to tackle such a huge project; this is how some of them make their living.
Let’s talk about doing a minor renovation job. This does not require a huge investment of time, money or materials. If all you are looking at having to renovate are some rotted out walls or interior cosmetic damage, then you have a relatively simple task ahead of you… unless, of you find out that the plumbing and or wiring needs to be redone. That tends to get more complicated, as you need to deal with electrical and plumbing permits then. You might even need to call in a licensed electrician or plumber, depending upon what needs to be repaired. Some other minor renovations are simple cosmetic repairs to a building are molding and trim needing replacing, replacing paneling or sheetrock or fixtures. These are really very simple renovations to do.
The more complex and time-consuming renovations usually involve gutting the entire inside of a building and starting all over again from the framework and rebuilding the inside of a wrecked building. This is where the builder or owner really has a lot to do. Here is where you need very large dumpsters to haul away the debris. You must remember to separate the materials before they are hauled away. The standard rule in construction and building is: Measure twice, but cut once. If you remember and follow this simple rule, it will save you a lot of headaches along the way. Making certain that you have all of your materials delivered on or ahead of schedule as well as making certain that all of your people are where they need to be when they are needed is crucial too. Nothing is more aggravating then not having you materials when you need them or people not showing up when you expect them to. This only slows the work down; which can end up costing you plenty in the end.
The bottom line here is that you need to plan everything out as carefully as you possibly can to make sure that a simple renovation job does not turn into a major headache. The same holds true for the more complex renovations as well, as those tend to create headaches all around if or when something unforeseen comes up. Believe me, the unexpected is bound to happen, handling them effectively is important.
