Information With Regards to the Singapore Housing Development Board
What is HDB? HDB or also known as the Housing Development Board in Singapore has been entrusted by the government to look after the housing needs of Singaporeans. The Housing Development Board or the HDB builds flats and homes for those residences of Singapore from the Lower income group right up to the Upper-middle class group. These are various types of flats built by the Housing Development Board for these people either with or without facilities and flats built according to one’s budget. We will discuss in brief relevant information pertaining to the HDB in this article.
Singapore citizens can purchase HDB flats if they are over 21 years of age. The purchaser must have a family member who is a citizen or a permanent resident of Singapore capable of forming or already has formed a family nucleus. They must also satisfy certain income brackets which have been allocated by the Housing Development Board and certain requirement for household status. This will be discussed in various other articles to come.
Before buying or purchasing a HDB flat one must first be able to be financially stable. One must sit down and list down all one's priorities and then see if one can afford to pay for a flat, this is actually a long term commitment unlike a short term commitment like buying a car. One has to commit to monthly payments of a higher amount.
One can also purchase a flat that is on resale. However one will have to fall under one of the five requirements before one can be eligible to buy such flats. These are briefly schemes that are known as public schemes, Family Scheme for non-citizens of Singapore or non-citizens Spouse Scheme and they even have a Scheme for Fiancée and Fiancé, a scheme for Orphans, a scheme for unmarried people known as the Joint Singles Scheme and one specifically for Single Singaporeans and lastly a SPR Siblings or a Citizen Scheme.
The HDB has an Ethnic Integration Policy that fixes the amount of ethnic ratio that is allowed in one block. This is to ensure harmony among the races. One can get in touch with the HDB through e-mails, phone calls or through the HDB hubs located around Singapore or just surf the websites for HDB Singapore. These sites will be able to tell you in detail what you need to do and what you are not allowed to do when purchasing a HDB flat. There are various forms and such for you to answer as well.
The CPF Housing Grant is a Grant that enables married couples who have never before purchased a HDB flat, to purchase such a property in the open market. All this can be found in the various websites available for HDB information.
